A Fitting Name

I think one of the hardest parts of having a baby is deciding on a name. Recently of facebook there was an app that graded your parents on how well they did choosing a name for you. Apparently they looked at how common your name was the year you were born and I guess other things too like if it's too weird or whatever.

No one wants to be the parent whose kid loathes their name, gets made fun of for their name, or has to pronounce and spell their name for everyone for the rest of their lives.

When Bret and I picked Emily's name we just liked the name. No one in our family had that name nor were we really friends with anyone with that name. We were completely oblivious to the fact that EVERYONE on the Northern hemisphere was naming their daughter Emily. Apparently it was the number one most popular name for 10 years in a row.

With Palmer Bret came up with the name and refused to budge. It was different yet not weird. It had some family references so even though I wasn't crazy about the name we went with it. The name has grown on me and now I love it.

Logan was a name that was somewhere in the middle. It's not nearly as common as Emily yet not as unique as Palmer. We actually came up with it when talking about KS. Logan is the name of the county where a lot of Bret's family is from.

The thing I love about names is how the child becomes their name. We are at the age where a lot of our friends are having babies and we have heard a range of names. Sometimes when you first hear the name its like "huh" but then after a few months or less you can't imagine their name being anything else. Some of the names our friends have used this past year are Jackson, Noah, Brennan, Abigail (3 of these), Kelsy, Felix, Kate,Grant, Zack, and Keaton. Every time I look at our baby I can't think of a more fitting name than Logan.
