Unwritten Rules of the Blog World

So I need your advice.

Back in the middle of April I entered a contest on a blog. When the contest ended the blogger posted that I was won of two winners. I emailed the host right away with my address and contact information. Then I waited...and waited...and waited. Nothing.

After exactly a month I emailed the host a very friendly reminder asking if she ever got around to mailing the said prize. Her response was that she had totally forgot, apologizes all around, and a promise to mail it out that very weekend. That was back in May and I still haven't gotten my prize.

I know I should let it go. I don't want to be a pest and email her again...I shouldn't have to. I guess the reason it really bothers me is because it was a sponsored give away. A company gave her three free samples. One to keep and two to give away. She also TOLD all of her readers that she gave the things away. I am not the biggest fan of her blog and should just dump her off my list of reading and forget about it..right? I certainly don't want to piss her off cause I have seen on her blog the wrath she uses to call other bloggers out when they piss her off.

I just don't like the whole situation. I feel kind of cheated. I think that when it comes to the world of blogging and giveaways all you have is your credibility. She has completely lost her credibility with me. So what would you do if it happened to you? Would you continue to bug until you got your prize? Would you let it go and forget it? Would you out her for not giving the prize away? I even thought about contacting the company directly but am way to big of a wimp for that. It wasn't even that expensive of a prize just something that I really wanted for my kids. Ugh. I hate touchy awkward situations like this. Just send me my damn prize already!! (I yell even though she doesn't even read my blog lol). So I look to you, my fellow bloggers and experts in the etiquette of rudeness for advice.

Wow! I would be pissed, but I would simply e-mail her again and say: I know you are busy and probably forgot...

Now you HAVE to tell who it IS! hahahaa

I have to admit now I am really currious who it is. I would try another email - suggest that perhaps it got lost in the mail (or something else that would not put her on the defensive).

If the worst that can happen is that she is a wench to you on her blog then so be it! I agree with you and would be very frustrated just because the principal of it, you won it, she told others she gave it away and somehow you don't have it.

I say email her - what have you got to lose?

I would email her and see if maybe she forgot your address or misplaced it. Maybe reinterate that you're not being a pest you just want to make sure that the post office didn't lose it.

How rude! I would be completely pissed AND I would contact the sponsor.

I can be bitter that way.

I can't say that I wouldn't have been as nice as you and not outed her in my blog. Maybe this isn't the first time that this happened.

Try one more nice email and if you don't get a response, let her have it.

I have to admit I'm horrible at getting my packages mailed out to the winners. But one time I won something and took 3 months for me to get it!

Ok, so I would have been super-pissed, blogged her name, temporarily ignored possible consequences, and then would have had to do another post withdrawing my comment. But you know how reactive I can be. :) I think maybe the best thing to do is send her an email and in an oh-so-innocent way, say "Hey, was just wondering about my free sample that was given to you by _____ to hand out as prizes. Not sure if you remember me, but I won that prize from your blog on _____. I am attaching my address and other contact information in case it has been misplaced. Look forward to hearing from you soon!"

Evidence is everything. If it isn't written down, it didn't happen.

Another way you can do this is to copy/paste her blog declaring you the winner into the body of your email.

That's what I do when someone ignores me. :)
