The Windy City

Last week Bret had a conference in Chicago and the kids and I decided to tag along. The conference was mandatory for the upcoming cheifs (Bret's class) so the department picked up the tab (although we have to pay for everything and get reimbursed). Tagging along on conferences is a cheap(er) way for us to take family vacations. Although they only pay for Bret we get our hotel, his ticket, food, car rental, etc paid for and then we just cover the costs for the kids and I.

The whole trip kind of felt a little crazy from the beginning. I am a planner and this time around I just did not have the time. Due to some miscommunication between Bret and I our plane tickets did not have us scheduled to leave until 8 pm when in fact he had the day off. When I call to see if we could change our flight it was going to cost $50 for each ticket. We decided to just head to the airport early and try to fly standby. Much to our amazement we got on a 1:45 flight (we got to the airport just before 1pm).

Chicago was a fun city to visit. We went to the Navy Pier, American Girl store and had brunch (Emily got her first AG doll), Disney store for Palmer, ate Chicago style pizza, the Children's museum, and on the last day we went and the most amazing brunch at Shaw's Crabhouse.
